At the mHealth Summit in Washington Dc, mHealthwatch sat down with Dave Tripi, Partner in the Janssen Healthcare Innovation Division of Johnson &Johnson and shared his excitement about their free Care4Today Mobile Health Manager.  Care4Today (version 1) is available on i0S, Android and on mobile optimized web.  It is a secure & encrypted two -way messaging solution that allows you to customize and create alerts for taking your medications or vitamins, setting up reminders for doctor’s appointments, alerts for prescription refills, all performed by sending a push notification at your suggested time intervals to your mobile handset . SMS text messaging will be added beginning of January 2013.

Version 2 of Care4Today (to be released Q2 of 2013) will be adding features that enhance the user experience by adding an easier mobile sign-in process, adding images of what  the actual medications looks like (is my Lipitor a red pill or a long blue one, I forgot).  This redesign includes more interaction with the consumer, positive feedback with patient encouragement, as well as adding an enhanced family portal so Care Givers can obtain alerts for elderly parents to check in on their adherence to their medications and doctor’s appointments as well. Now in English, the updated version will add Spanish, French and German languages.  Janssen will be launching their application globally to England, France and Germany in Q2 of 2013.

This application is a helpful backup reminder system that you personalize and use to better your health. It can store your doctors, pharmacy and health teams contact information, making it a quick tool, a one- stop-shop for managing one’s healthcare via your smart phone.

Dave’s division was tasked by J&J in 2010 to come up with solutions that can add a better outcome for consumers, by discovering products and solutions that enhance their business model, as well as finding new non-traditional healthcare companies that the Janssen Innovation team can help scale. J&J desires to move their brand from being known as a Health care products company to a Healthcare company.   Their Corporate credo is to put the needs and well-being of the people they serve first. Care4Today is a step in the right direction.
