HIMSS 2016: Yorktel Introduces Portable Telehealth Kit

HIMSS 2016 Yorktel Introduces Portable Telehealth KitFrom HIMSS 2016 in Booth #11512, Yorktel — a provider of cloud, UC&C, and video managed services — has just introduced FeatherMed, which is being hailed as a self-contained, clinical portable telehealth kit.

What exactly is a mobile telehealth kit?

FeatherMed is described as being an “on-the-go” telehealth kit that can easily be carried into various remote and home care situations, for emergency or follow-up care with seniors, veterans and chronically ill patients.

Packaged in a sleek, ergonomic, small form factor carrying case, FeatherMed is 50 percent lighter and far less bulky than other market offerings.

But the smaller size doesn’t come with any shortcuts in quality, we’re told.

Utilizing a proprietary video compression technology unique to Yorktel, FeatherMed enables HD, encrypted, jitter-free, face-to-face patient consultations using bandwidth as low as 90 kb, compared to 700 kb required by other devices.

“FeatherMed, which is compliant with home health care regulations, solves the problem of delivering quality, efficient patient care in ‘off site’ settings away from the hospital or clinic while drastically cutting costs,” the company says.

“Home medical care is fast becoming a critical component to serving patients of all ages,” says James Custer, director of healthcare product solutions at Yorktel.
