“While medical augmented reality (AR) activity today stems largely from first responder trials and initial forays into training and education applications, ABI Research predicts the market will hit an inflection point between 2018 and 2019,” the new report explains.

The market will then experience accelerated growth through expanded telemedicine and surgery use cases, including remote surgery viewings, preparations, and enhancing the operating room experience.

Apple Seeking Talent from Medical Sensor IndustryAccording to ABI Research, the market for disposable wireless Medical Body Area Network (MBAN) sensors within professional healthcare is growing. As MHW previously reported, ABI concedes that today’s market is still in its “earliest stages” but the key foundations to support adoption are now in place.

By 2018, an estimated 5 million disposable sensors will be shipped even though MBAN sensors will have still barely penetrated the addressable market.

Not surprisingly, Apple doesn’t want to lag behind competitors that are incorporating medical sensors into a host of new mobile devices, including smartwatches. As a result, Apple is rumored to be hiring top talent from the medical sensor industry this summer.
