CarePass to be Phased Out


CarePass to be Phased OutLast year Aetena launched their CarePass consumer website and mobile solution as part of its “What’s Your Healthy?” national campaign. However, the insurer has decided to phase out CarePass by the end of 2014.

“At this time, we have decided to make no further investments in the CarePass platform,” said Cynthia Michener, spokeswoman for Aetna. Current CarePass users will still have access to the platform for the time being and until its planned closing at the end of the year.

CarePass was designed for users to create, track, and achieve their health goals as well as featured a catalog of more than 20 health apps.

iTriage CEO Named 'Entrepreneur of the Year'In recent months, MHW has afforded no shortage of coverage to iTriage LLC, an Aetna subsidiary headquartered in Denver, Colorado.

This past week, iTriage CEO and co-founder, Dr. Peter Hudson, received the coveted “Entrepreneur of the Year” Award from the Colorado Technology Association.

The organization’s “most prestigious honor” was bestowed upon Dr. Hudson at the APEX 2013 Conference Awards Dinner.

Aetna Delivers iTriage Employer Technology to Mid-Sized BusinessesLast month, Martha Wofford, head of CarePass at Aetna, provided a demonstration to MHW of the company’s impressive new CarePass platform.

“We’re excited,” Wofford said at the time. “I think it will help people get control of their health and wellness data and make living a healthy life a little more convenient. That’s our hope.”

Driving further innovation in the weeks that have passed, on Tuesday Aetna launched an enhanced version of the popular iTriage app for mid-sized businesses.

With this enhanced version, employers can customize the app so that their employees will receive information about health care providers that are in their network.

“We’re excited,” says Martha Wofford, head of CarePass at Aetna. “I think it will help people get control of their health and wellness data and make living a healthy life a little more convenient. That’s our hope.”

Wofford and her team provided a demonstration of the impressive new CarePass platform for mHealthWatch last week.

“We have a strong belief at Aetna that people are fundamentally different and we need a broad array of tools to help people live a healthier life and that we can bring to them some of the best apps that are out there in one place and make it as convenient as possible,” Wofford says.

Gaming-based “Job of War” mHealth App Wins Top Price in Aetna Health 2.0 Code-a-thon


Contests to help spur innovation in the mHealth application market is nothing new — we’ve seen countless apps emerge from such events around the world as the mobile healthcare industry continues to gain incredible momentum.

The latest event to produce such innovation took place just before the Health 2.0 Europe Conference in Berlin, in which Aetna sponsored a code-a-thon with EUR 10K worth of prizes.  Aetna invited the best developers, designers, health experts and health tech entrepreneurs to compete on the challenge of developing “innovative mobile apps to promote health and wellness across the globe.”

Mark Bertolini, CEO of AETNA, Talks mHealth During Health 2.0 Presentation


Mr. Bertolini was introduced as a man who intimately understands challenges in health and healthcare.  Mark’s son was diagnosed with cancer in the past few years, and recently he gave his son one of his kidneys for his survival.  The audience clapped when we were told that his son is doing well and has since recovered.

Mark explained to us all that the world is evolving, and behavioral changes need to happen in this country. He went on to expound, “imagine a healthcare system that is connected and convenient, and that works around the members’ lives instead of members working around the healthcare system.”
