American Telemedicine Association Appoints New CEO

This week, the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) announced that Ann Mond Johnson will assume leadership as CEO beginning March 5, 2018.

American Telemedicine Association Takes Up Climate Change

Ahead of the weekend, MHW learned that The American Telemedicine Association (ATA) President Dr. Peter Yellowlees, MD, MBBS, will join the Medical Society Consortium on Climate & Health, consistent with ATA’s healthcare leadership role.

If you’re not familiar, the Consortium works to raise awareness of the negative effects of climate change on health and to educate the public, its constituents, and policymakers about the long-term health benefits of decreasing greenhouse gas emissions, among other preventative measures.

Chamberlain Tapped for ATA Board of Directors

ATA American Telemedicine AssociationmHealthWatch learned Tuesday that Ziegler, a boutique healthcare investment bank and full-service brokerage firm, can now confirm that Grant Chamberlain, Managing Director in Ziegler’s Corporate Finance Healthcare Practice, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the American Telemedicine Association (ATA).

American Telemedicine Association Makes Push for More Rural Telehealth Support

Success With Robotic Rounds in Neonatal Intensive Care UnitThe American Telemedicine Association (ATA) recently penned a letter to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce urging that the Rural Health Care Connectivity Act (H.R. 4111) be amended to also allow universal service support for other rural health providers — Medicare or Medicaid telehealth providers, school-based clinics, and emergency transport.

“One of the best ways to eliminate obstacles to high-quality, affordable care is to increase healthcare options available to rural areas. This is a major step in the right direction,” said Jonathan Linkous, CEO of the American Telemedicine Association.

“Since this is a first effort in 20 years to update the definition of rural health provider for this important Federal Communications Commission assistance, the Committee should consider equally important providers to the skilled nursing facilities that would be added by H.R. 4111,” the ATA boss concluded.

ATA Taps Founder of DermatologistOnCall for Vice Chair of Teledermatology Group

ATA Accreditation of Online Medical Services Registration Now OpenIagnosis, a developer of telemedicine solutions and the creator of DermatologistOnCall, announced Tuesday that its founder and chief medical officer, Mark P. Seraly, MD, has been elected Vice Chair of the Teledermatology Special Interest Group of the American Telemedicine Association (ATA).

“I am very honored by the American Telemedicine Association to be elected by the members as vice chair in their special interest group for teledermatology. I’m excited to contribute the insights drawn from my several years of real-world experience in not just practicing telehealth myself, but also in building a business model and championing provider adoption to enable a successful offering to patients,” said Dr. Seraly in a written statement to the media.

ATA Announces Support for White House’s ConnectALL Initiative

White House Backs Bigger Budget for Health Technology EffortsThis week, President Obama introduced ConnectALL, a new initiative aimed at ensuring broadband parity for Americans of all income levels. In unveiling ConnectALL, the President also announced a goal of providing broadband access to 20 million more Americans by 2020.

The first of its efforts is a push for the Federal Communications Commission to revitalize its current phone subsidy program by extending coverage to the internet. The administration is also releasing a new study highlighting the importance of broadband access in engendering economic growth.
