Facebook, Google and Others Reach Featured At Annual Global Digital Health Forum Closing Plenary


FacebookThought leaders from Facebook, Google, Microsoft Philanthropies and Qualcomm Wireless Reach will be featured at the closing plenary of the 3rd annual Global Digital Health Forum (formerly the Global mHealth Forum), on December 14.

According to a provided news release, these highly-recognized corporate partners will discuss how they are providing far-reaching technical capability for last-mile connectivity in support of health in low- and middle-income countries.

The Global Digital Health Forum, presented by the Personal Connected Health Alliance (PCHAlliance) in partnership with the Global Digital Health Network and USAID, brings together public and private sector organizations to share the latest evidence, experiences and lessons learned on new applications and approaches in digital health. The Global Digital Health Forum is the preeminent global digital health event; a two-day Forum focused on catalyzing change in healthcare through advancing the use of digital technologies for improved health in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Facebook Bringing AMBER Alerts to Mobile, Online PlatformThe world’s largest social network plans to use its expansive social reach to help in times of great crisis and the worst possible emergency a parent can imagine.

On Tuesday, Facebook confirmed publicly that it will start displaying AMBER alerts (alerts designed to notify the public in a designated region about a missing or abducted child) both on its mobile app and its website.

The effort stems from Facebook’s collaboration with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Facebook Boss Joins The Global Fight Against Ebola


FacebookOn Tuesday, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg stepped up to aid in the global effort to curtail the alarming rate at which the deadly Ebola virus continues to spread.

Last night, Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, confirmed their plans to donate $25 million to help fight the horrid virus.

We’re told the funds will be given to the Center for Disease Control Foundation.

Facebook Gives Back By Providing Free Internet Access In Zambia


FacebookWhile there are many countries around the globe where accessing the Internet is something done without second thought, there are still countless nations where access to the Internet — or affordable access — is difficult to come by. In fact, only 30 percent of the world’s population has access to the Internet today.

While access to Internet is still lacking, 85 percent of the world is within reach of cellular technology. With this in mind, Facebook has launched a free Internet app in Zambia called Internet.org. The app allows Android cellphones free basic Internet services.
