American Medical Association (AMA) and AT&T Combine Health Platforms For Improved Collaboration


It’s been announced by the American Medical Association (AMA) and AT&T that the two have forged a partnership to enable “hundreds of thousands of physicians, physician organizations and medical societies nationwide to connect and collaborate with hospitals, payers and patients to help enhance patient care and reduce costs.”

To accomplish this goal, the two organizations will integrate the AMA’s “AMAGINE” physician community portal with AT&T’s “Healthcare Community Online,” which will create a centralized, advanced collaborative care and Healthcare Information Exchange (HIE) platform.  Together, both organizations have the primary goal of providing physicians with more “tools at their fingertips to modernize the management of their practices.”

AT&T Debuts “ForHealth,” A Practice Area Dedicated to mHealth, Telehealth, Cloud-Based Solutions & HIEs


We covered the fact that AT&T is getting serious about mHealth technology yesterday, and today it’s been announced that the nation’s #2 carrier is launching “AT&T ForHealth,” a new practice area serving hospitals, insurers, pharma companies, suppliers and physicians with the aim of delivering IT and networking services that help the healthcare industry improve patient care and reduce costs.

The new business unit will be an umbrella of sorts covering four key areas of healthcare; mHealth, telehealth, cloud-based healthcare solutions and Healthcare Information Exchange (HIE).  As part of the new division, AT&T has even hired its first Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO), Dr. Geeta Nayyar.  As one of its first large-scale healthcare initiatives, the company is working with the American Association of Diabetes Educators and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services to evaluate mobile devices used to deliver diabetes self-management training in a minority community in Dallas.

Verizon Launches Smartphone & Tablet Support On Its Secure Healthcare Identity Solution


Verizon announced recently that it’s expanding the use of its healthcare “Universal Identity Services” (UIS) to smartphones and tablets running Android, iOS, Blackberry and Windows Mobile.

Launched in November of last year, UIS is a managed software as a service (SaaS) utility that allows healthcare professionals to access various documents and information using secure medical identity credentials.  For example, physicians can use Verizon’s security credentials to do things like access e-prescribing applications, view and modify Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and securely authenticate various other Health Information Exchanges (HIEs).
