German Surgeon Successfully Uses iPad in Operating RoomReuters confirms that a doctor in Germany recently completed an intricate liver surgery using Apple’s iPad throughout the sensitive procedure.

Specifically, the tablet was used to access and visualize planning data during the operation..

”With this feature, we can almost see into the body and make the tumors and the vascular system visible,” explains Prof. Dr. Karl Oldhafer, Head of the Department of General and Visceral Surgery, Asklepios Hospital in Hamburg Barmbek.

The tablet uses augmented reality, which allows the liver to be filmed with an iPad and overlaid during an operation with virtual 3D models reconstructed from the real organ.
