Partners Healthcare, Samsung to Develop mHealth SolutionsOn Tuesday morning, Partners HealthCare announced a new partnership with Samsung Electronics to “develop the next generation of personalized digital and mobile solutions for health and wellness.”

According to details shared with mHealthWatch this morning, the first phase of this collaboration will include software development and clinical research to deliver tools to improve chronic disease management.

“We are excited to have access to the vast capabilities of Samsung Electronics to help improve the way we deliver care to our patients. This joint development program has the potential to significantly propel mHealth and personal connected health forward,” said Dr. Kamal Jethwani, Senior Director of Connected Health Innovation at Partners HealthCare.

GreatCall mHealth Solutions Roll Out at Rite AidGreatCall, Inc., leader in creating mobile health and safety solutions for active aging, recently announced that their health and safety products and services are available in more than 4,000 Rite Aid Pharmacies nationwide.

GreatCall’s mobile health solutions offered in-store include Touch3, Splash and Jitterbug5.

The custom displays include the full product range, demo phones and brochures. Additionally, Rite Aid’s pharmacy app now comes preloaded on all Touch3 smartphones sold at Rite Aid.

Verizon's Converged Health Management in Focus at mHealth SummitThis week at the mHealth Summit in Washington, D.C., I had the good fortune of briefly catching up with Julie Kling, mHealth Director at Verizon.

Ms. Kling explained that since Verizon provides services to a multitude of healthcare providers in the United States today, they have strategically developed platforms that can further these relationships through new solutions that address the new opportunities and challenges in modern healthcare.

For example, Converged Health Management, Verizon’s newest solution, resides in the company’s HIPAA-ready cloud, and provides clinicians with access to up-to-date patient data from connected biometric devices “so they can more efficiently monitor and manage patients from their home, or when they are on the go.”

GSMA: mHealth Could Save Europe Billions

GSMA Says mHealth Could Save Europe BillionsThe GSMA has published research that projects the profoundly positive impact that expanded mHealth adoption could exert on Europe in the coming years.

Chief among this significant socio-economic impact will be the cost savings of almost €100 billion (in healthcare costs in the EU) by 2017.

Additionally, a more widespread reliance on mHealth could add €93 billion in GDP.

How mHealth is Saving Lives… and Money

A newly released report by Deloitte’s Center for Health Solutions indicates that patients are beginning to trust their smartphones as much as they trust their doctors.

As MHW reported Tuesday, the $1.2 billion mobile health market is predicted to expand tenfold by 2018. This unfolding reality is poised to bring immense savings in productivity gains by “decreasing hospital admissions, better managing chronic diseases, and reducing the time needed for communication and data retrieval.”

The report from Deloitte projects that telehealth tools, home health monitoring devices, smartphones and tablets, and videoconferencing will expand the reach of physicians into a patient’s everyday life.

Dell to Showcase new Cloud-based Archiving & Mobile Clinical Computing Solutions at HIMSS

Now that the 2012 HIMSS conference is in full swing in Las Vegas, the product and solution announcements are coming in hot and heavy, with Dell being no exception.  The computing powerhouse will be on hand to debut two new solutions designed exclusively for the healthcare industry; a new cloud-based archiving solution and an update to its mobile clinical computing solution.

Dell’s new cloud-based archiving solution stems from its acquisition of InSite One in December of 2010, and the company has since developed a complete clinical archiving solution that enables “easy and secure data retrieval and sharing for the clinician, while simplifying IT management and maintenance overhead with a variety of storage options.”  Dell says global expansion and a new alliance with Siemens will extend the reach of its UCA solution and cloud-hosting capabilities into new markets in 2012.

Polyglot Partners with CellepathicRx for Medication Adherence

It’s been announced that Polyglot Systems, who provides award-winning “Meducation” content to hard-to-reach patients through mobile web, apps and e-mail technology, has partnered with CellepathicRx to deliver its medication adherence solution through the latter’s mHealth platform.

Polyglot specializes in providing medication adherence solutions aimed at patients who have low health literacy or difficulty understanding English.  Through its Meducation content, patients and healthcare providers can access medication instructions that are written at a 5th to 6th grade reading level in any of over twelve languages, including English, Spanish, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Korean, Haitian Creole, Italian, French, Arabic, Russian, Bengali, Polish and others.  Instructions can also be printed in large fonts for those with impaired vision.  The solution even lets patients access online videos demonstrating proper medication use for medications that are especially hard to use and understand.
