The update includes products and services to help transform the clinical, financial and operational aspects of specialty practices, plus product enhancements to EMA, the company’s flagship electronic health record (EHR) system developed by practicing physicians.

Penn State Health Partners with Mercy Virtual

Penn State Health Partners with Mercy VirtualmHealthWatch learned ahead of the weekend that Penn State Health has signed a partnership agreement with Mercy Virtual that will benefit patients and medical staff of both systems.

Initially, Mercy will virtually monitor intensive care unit (ICU) patients at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, a leading university health center.

The partnership will expand over time across Penn State Health facilities and programs, drawing on both partners’ expertise to create new care models across the region.

CHRISTUS Health Taps Nuance for Enterprise-Wide Speech Recognition Deployment

NuanceMHW learned Thursday that Nuance Communications, Inc. has been selected by CHRISTUS Health, one of the 10 largest Catholic not-for-profit health systems in the U.S., for an enterprise-wide physician documentation improvement initiative.

The impetus, we’re told, is to improve how physicians work with inpatient and ambulatory EHRs with the additional benefit of improving financial performance.

This broad implementation replaces multiple competitive systems, adding Nuance’s full suite of clinical documentation solutions including Nuance’s back-end medical transcription, as well as Nuance PowerScribe® 360, and Nuance Dragon® Medical for real-time speech-enabled physician documentation.

New Apigee Survey Reveals Mobile's Role in Managing Health and WellnessOn Tuesday, Apigee announced the results of the Apigee Institute’s 2015 Digital Impact Survey.

The survey in question identifies health and wellness management as an industry in which smartphones and apps are changing behavior among a majority of connected consumers.

According to the survey, 60 percent of adult smartphone owners in the U.S. – and nearly three quarters of millennials (71%) – say smartphones and apps have changed the way they manage their health and wellness. Additional findings show that almost half (49%) now want their doctors to use data from their fitness tracker and/or from health apps as part of their care.
