On Tuesday, the world’s leading Internet search powerhouse announced that Google Fiber is coming to four major new U.S. markets.
“It’s been nearly five years since we offered to build a fiber-optic network in one U.S. city as an experiment — and were met with overwhelming enthusiasm,” said Dennis Kish, Vice President of Google Fiber, in blog entry published yesterday.
With Google Fiber already live in Kansas City, Provo and Austin, the impact of gigabit Internet, “with speeds up to 100 times faster than today’s basic broadband,” is being noticed — including in the realm of healthcare.

Rocket Fuel, a leading provider of artificial intelligence (AI) advertising and marketing solutions for global agencies and brands, has announced the release of its Quantified Self (QS) Digital Tools survey for Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) companies.
According to its new survey, nearly one-third (31 percent) of all U.S. consumers currently use a QS tool to track their health and fitness, inclusive of smart watches, wearable fitness trackers, apps, and websites.
“The survey also revealed that 43 percent of QS users are willing to share behavioral data for more personalized digital ads,” noted a release shared with MHW. “They are also nearly five times more likely to purchase due to seeing digital ads than are non-QS users, presenting an opportunity for CPG advertisers to better target their digital campaigns.”

This is the attention-grabbing headlines and overarching finding of the report “The Wearable Healthcare Revolution,” by Swiss research firm Soreon Research, details of which were shared with MMW on Wednesday.
In Soreon Research’s view, smart wearables, a set of sensors attached to the body with a direct link to smart devices, are the most industry-disrupting innovation as well as a major opportunity to transform the healthcare system.
