GSMA Announced ‘Big Data for Social Good’ Initiative

GSMA Focusing mHealth Efforts on Sub-Saharan AfricaThis week in Barcelona, Spain at Mobile World Congress, the GSMA launched the “Big Data for Social Good” initiative.

The effort, we’re told, will leverage mobile operators’ big data capabilities to address humanitarian crises, including epidemics and natural disasters.

According to the official word on the initiative, the program is being launched with 16 of the world’s leading mobile operators – Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, Hutchison, KDDI, KT Corporation, Millicom, MTS, NTT DOCOMO, INC., Orange, SK Telecom, Telefónica, Telenor, Telia, Turkcell, Vodafone and Zain – which collectively account for over 2 billion connections across more than 100 countries.

More Healthcare Industry Professionals Expected at MWC 2016With 2015 rapidly approaching its end, one of 2016’s most eagerly anticipated events draws closer on the calendar.

Last week, the GSMA outlined the first details of the 2016 GSMA Mobile World Congress, including confirmed keynote speakers, exhibitors and sponsors, as well as programs and activities taking place at the annual mobile industry event.

Under the theme ‘Mobile is Everything’, Mobile World Congress will be held 22-25 February 2016 at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, with events also taking place at Fira Montjuïc. The GSMA expects that more than 95,000 attendees from across the mobile industry and adjacent industry sectors will gather for the 2016 event.

MWC Beat Blackberry Big Winner in Global Healthcare SolutionsBlackBerry Limited, the Canadian mobile communications giant, is making the most of its exhibition and presence at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) this week.

For one thing, the company is making hay with its news about what Blackberry and healthcare are accomplishing together. At MWC, it announced new BlackBerry partner applications available for BlackBerry 10, iOS, and Android devices that are “enabling innovative solutions to improve healthcare communications, workflow, and patient care.”

“Healthcare organizations require a platform that secures data end-to-end, controlling access to the data in transit and at rest,” according to a company release. “BES12 is the leading platform for secure mobile communications and cross-platform application management. The BlackBerry platform enables solutions that provide healthcare organizations with the best in security, connectedness, and the exchange of real time data, while ensuring privacy of patient data and supporting a HIPAA compliant environment.”

GSMA Announces Details For Mobile World Congress 2014The GSMA has just published the first details of the 2014 GSMA Mobile World Congress, including exhibiting and sponsoring companies, executives speaking in the keynote program and new event features.

One of the new event features in question is mPowered Industries, which will explore the impact of mobile in vertical industries.

The GSMA expects more than 72,000 attendees for next year’s Mobile World Congress, which will take place February 24-27, 2014 at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona.

M*Modal Working Toward Speech-Enabled mHealth Tech Advancements

M*Modal and Intermountain Healthcare have deemed themselves collaborators on the industry’s first speech-enabled computerized physician order entry (CPOE) app for Apple’s iPhone and iPad.

This week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, M*Modal – a provider of clinical documentation and Speech Understanding solutions – confirmed its new agreement with Intermountain Healthcare to jointly develop innovative mobile technologies.

Speech-enabled Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE), the company says, will enable physicians and hospital staff to conversationally order patient medication and other medical functions using iOS devices.

Mobile World Congress to Highlight Breakthrough for Healthcare Data Mobility

Four days before Mobile World Congress gets underway in Barcelona, we’re learning that Orange, through its healthcare services subsidiary Almerys, and Morpho have partnered for the benefit of expanding mHealth adoption and sophistication.

The pair has created the world’s first mobile identity management system for the healthcare sector, extending existing health card solutions.

A formal announcement and demonstration is expected at MWC next week, beginning February 25th.

Telecommunications Operator Exhibits Strong Presence in Mobile World Congress

Etisalat made a strong showing at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where it took home three awards for its telecommunication operations in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

With its Mobile Baby healthcare platform, Etisalat swept up two awards at the Congress. The Service for Women in Emerging Markets and Best Mobile Health Innovation awards were presented to the company for the success and scalability of its program.

Mobile Baby was created in conjunction with Qualcomm, D-Tree International, and Great Connection as a means of providing affordable healthcare solutions for anyone, no matter how remote their location. This program was first implemented in Tanzania, where it accompanied a 30 percent drop in maternal mortality rates.
