RWJF Awards Millions to 100 Million Healthier Lives Initiative

This week, The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI)  announced an award of $6.3 million from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF).

The funds, we’re told, will lead to the expansion of an initiative to advance the health, wellbeing, and equity of communities.

The initiative offers community health leaders a groundbreaking opportunity to combine improvement science with transformational leadership skills in order to effect greater, more sustainable change.

Next Stop for First Stop Health? Additional Funding to Accelerate Growth

Major Money Raised for Low IncomeFirst Stop Health, a telemedicine company generating what it calls “the highest utilization in the industry,” has just announced its latest funding round of $1.6 million.

First Stop Health has raised total capital of $7.2 million to date. Funds raised in this round will be used to accelerate the company’s growth.

First Stop Health co-founder and CEO Patrick Spain (co-founder and former CEO of Hoover’s) and co-founder and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mark Friedman led the latest round of investment.

Money, Money, Money Guess What Would Inspire More Family Physicians to Use TelehealthMoney makes the world go around. And it’s also what would make more doctors embrace telehealth platforms.

Nearly nine out of 10 family physicians say they would use telehealth to assist in treating their patients if they were compensated for it, according to a survey conducted by the Robert Graham Center for Anthem, Inc. and the American Academy of Family Physicians.

The report, “A First Look at Attitudes Surrounding Telehealth,” focuses on physician attitudes about telehealth, the patient services for which telehealth is most used and the hurdles that impede greater adoption of the technology. Its findings are based on 1,557 family physicians’ responses to a mail survey on beliefs, attitudes and use of telehealth in patient care.

Major Money Raised for Low IncomeRural communities are in need of help in many areas. One area currently being addressed is in the realm of healthcare assistance. Across the United States, there is manpower and desire to assist, but not the technology to get it done fast and efficiently.

In 2011, President Obama ordered the creation of the White House Rural Council Initiative. This group, led by the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), was established to help rural doctors and medical facilities find financing and enable them to afford healthcare information technology.
