Qualcomm Announces New Wearables Platform

Qualcomm Incorporated recently announced that its subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., is bringing LTE categories M1 (eMTC) and NB1 (NB-IoT) connectivity to the wearables industry with the launch of the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 1200 platform.

We’re told that Snapdragon Wear 1200 takes advantage of the wide coverage provided by emerging LTE narrowband technologies, or LTE IoT, to help usher in a new generation of ultra-low power, highly energy efficient, always connected, and cost-efficient experiences to targeted purpose wearable devices such as kid, pet, elderly, and fitness trackers.

UnitedHealthcare and Qualcomm Integrate New Wearable Devices With Wellness Program

Qualcomm Life Touts Connected Health Collaborations at Connect 2015On Tuesday, UnitedHealthcare and Qualcomm Incorporated announced enhancements and the expansion of UnitedHealthcare Motion, a wellness program that provides employees with activity trackers at no additional charge and enables them to earn up to $1,500 per year by meeting certain goals for the number of daily steps.

Per details shared in this morning’s release, UnitedHealthcare Motion is being showcased at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017, the annual technology convention in Las Vegas.

The two companies introduced UnitedHealthcare Motion in 2016 as a pilot in 12 states to select employers, using Qualcomm Life’s 2net Platform for medical-grade connectivity that features multiple safeguards to help keep data secure.

Qualcomm Life Touts Connected Health Collaborations at Connect 2015This week, Qualcomm Life announced that it is collaborating with Davita Healthcare Partners and P2Link to develop chronic care management solutions powered by Qualcomm Life’s 2net Device Connectivity Platform and HealthyCircles Care Coordination Platform to enable “continuous care, informed interventions and better management of at-risk populations.”

The collaborations were announced at Qualcomm Life’s annual Connect 2015 ecosystem conference this week in San Diego, California.

Davita HealthCare Partners, one of the largest medical groups and physician network operators, provides integrated care management for approximately 830,000 patients, more than 600,000 of which live in California.

Emerging Wearable Tech Player Acquired by Intel

Emerging Wearable Tech Player Acquired by IntelBasis has sold to the highest bidder, according to a new report from TechCrunch.

The fast-growing smartwatch maker has been acquired by Intel for an estimated $100 million. Since official word of the acquisition surfaced, however, others have suggested that the final sale price may be closer to $150 million.

Basis makes heath-centric smartwatches and presently controls about 7 percent of this young but lucrative emerging market.
