Google Contact Lenses May Speed Up Evolution of Mainstream mHealthAs technology becomes smaller and more compact than ever previously imaginable, mHealth tech and app developers are looking for bigger and better ways to integrate small, wearable devices into patient life.

One of the most innovative designs aims to take advantage of the upcoming Google contact lens. While originally designed to fully integrate technology into the human body, this lens could also be used to measure blood sugar levels in the tears of a diabetic.

These contacts are made from the same material as traditional contact lenses and will greatly mitigate the need for fingers to be pricked to take blood sugar levels. Wearable technology is no longer a thing of the future. With major smartphone makers now designing smartwatches, and innovations like the Google Glass on the horizon, wireless technology is becoming more and more accessible. And with greater accessibility come greater possibilities.

The Google lens will be implanted directly into the eye and will be powered by radio waves. This will give the lenses just enough power to collect and send data about glucose levels (and, potentially, other vitals) to another mobile device, which can then analyze the data and send out alerts, if necessary. Though it does have the ability to reduce the amount of finger pricking diabetics have to do, it will not entirely eliminate it.
