Help-4-Hep Offers New Mobile and Web AppHelp-4-Hep, a non-profit, peer-to-peer helpline that enables counselors to connect with patients to meet the challenges of hepatitis C, is turning to mobile to advance their mission.

This week, the group launched a new web and mobile app to bring its peer counseling services as well as a new self-care tool to more people affected by hepatitis C.

Hepatitis C is a silent and potentially deadly liver disease and a serious health issue affecting our population. For up to 80% of people who contract hepatitis C, the illness moves into a long-term phase called chronic hepatitis C.

eHealth in the Home: Critical for Care of Premature Infants?


While digital and mobile health technologies continue to be deployed with haste among adult patient populations around the world, providing care and monitoring for infants through eHealth has been a more complicated and controversial practice.

A new study, however, is shedding light on the use of digital and mobile health resources for premature infants, particularly the babies that have already been released from the hospital.

The aim of the study, as highlighted in the BioMed Central journal, was to investigate whether the use of video conferencing or a web application improves parents’ satisfaction in taking care of a premature infant at home.

Hipcricket & ISIS Partner for Mobile Health Resources


It was announced today that ISIS, a national nonprofit organization that uses technology for sexual health promotion and disease prevention, has partnered with mobile messaging provider Hipcricket to power a series of mobile Websites as an additional means of engagement to offer teens and young adults choices in how they prefer to interact with critical health information.

ISIS has worked with Hipcricket since 2005, with the nonprofit using its platform to manage SMS messaging, opt-in membership lists, clinic/service locators, informational messages, and reminder systems for HIV and STI testing.  Under the terms of the new partnership, the company will extend its mobile health program by leveraging Hipcricket’s AD LIFE Mobile Site Builder to create campaign- and client-specific landing pages accessible through the mobile Web.

Highmark Launches Mobile Websites, Health & Wellness SMS Program


Highmark, an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association based in Pittsburgh, announced recently that it’s launched new mobile websites for its members along with new motivational health and wellness SMS programs.

Its new mobile-optimized websites allow members to access Highmark’s provider directory, claims history and provides quick access to the most used functions of Highmark’s full websites.  Highmark’s health and wellness SMS program, called “Encouraging Words of Wisdom,” recently began for individuals enrolled in Highmark’s Personal Nutrition Coaching program, where individuals meet with a registered dietitian for up to seven sessions in a calendar year and can supplement their coaching by signing up for SMS alerts to receive motivational text messages every other day to stay on track with their wellness goal.

BCBSNC Taps Kony Solutions for Member Services Mobile Site


As healthcare organizations enter the mobile space there’s been debate over whether native mobile applications or mobile Web development is the better choice.  While each have their pros and cons, most organizations have chosen the former.  It was announced today, however, that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) is launching a mobile-optimized version of its Member Services site.

Supported on both Android and iOS platforms, BCBSNC wanted to give its more than 3.7M customers access to its award-winning site without the need for downloading a native mobile application.  Developed with the help of Kony Solutions, users can securely login to bcbsnc.com on their mobile devices to access features such as claim viewing, current health plan benefit information, physician finder, treatment cost estimator, prescription drug information and much more.

Kaiser Permanente Launches Mobile App for Access to Electronic Medical Records


Kaiser Permanente, who already boasts the largest deployment of Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) in the world, today announced the launch of a new Android application to allow more than 9 million Kaiser patients to access their medical information on the go.

In addition to its Android app, the healthcare provider is also launching a newly mobile-optimized version of its website located at kp.org to allow anyone with a mobile device to still access their medical information when and where they need it.  Kaiser said it plans to launch a companion app for iOS in the coming months as well.  Through mobile access to their personal health information, Kaiser members now have secure access to lab results, diagnostic information, direct email communication with doctors, and the ability to order prescription refills among other things.
